Support for hard disk drives, including RMA and warranty support, may be provided by IBM or HGST.

Drives supported by IBM have an IBM FRU number. These drives may have IBM or HGST branding.

Finding and Identifying an FRU Number

You can find the FRU number on the sticker on the top side of the drive. It is a combination of numbers and letters and is seven characters in length. The third character will be a letter (“FRU xxaxxxx”).

If your hard drive does not have an IBM FRU number, it may be supported by HGST, even if it has IBM branding. Check to see if your warranty is covered by HGST.
