| Using Microdrive or
Travelstar E with ThinkPad 600x |
Problem |
| The ThinkPad 600x laptops do not have free resources to assign a drive letter to an Microdrive or Travelstar E. This
applies to Windows 95 and 98. |
| |
| Symptoms |
| The hard drive
is seen in the Device Manager under Hard Drive
Controllers but no drive letter is assigned and it does
not show up in My Computer. When you look at the
properties of the hard drive under Hard Disk
Controllers, you may notice that the resources assigned
to it are something other then an IRQ and an
Input/Output Range. |

| Solution |
One solution
that has worked on the ThinkPad 600x is to disable the
"Warm Swap" option in the ThinkPad
Configuration. The Warm Swap allows the user to suspend
the system and swap the DVD drive for the Floppy or
another device.
|
- Select Start -> ThinkPad -> ThinkPad Configuration.
- Select the Device Bay icon on the right side of the window.
- Disable the "Warm Swap" option.
- Close the ThinkPad Configuration utility and reboot the system.
|
Another solution is to disable any unused device that
has an IRQ assigned to the device, such as the infrared
port, and reboot the system. This should free up
the IRQ for use with the Microdrive or Travelstar E. |
