“We’re excited to continue our support of the highly creative, dynamic filmmaking community by having a presence at the European Independent Film Festival 2010,” said Steve Pereira, general manager, Hitachi Global Storage Technologies Europe. “Not only will we be on the ground celebrating, educating and aligning ourselves with this influential base of content creators, we will be reaching out to those who cannot attend by capturing and broadcasting exclusive behind-the-scenes content online as well as launching our new Driven Creativity Bursary Competition which recognises those individuals who go the extra mile to achieve unique and special work.”
Supporting
In an effort to recognize and reward those individuals who go the extra mile to push creativity, G-Technology will officially announce its Driven Creativity Bursary Competition at ÉCU. The program is designed to celebrate the hard work and dedication that creative professionals put into their work on a daily basis – the late nights, harsh environments and obstacles they overcome in producing remarkable and innovative results.
Open to professional and non-professionals across the film, animation, music and photography sectors, winners and runners-up will all receive G-Technology drives, with the overall winner awarded a grant of 5,000 Euros to fund their next creative project. Online entry will open at the start of June 2010 and film makers and other creative professionals can sign up now at www.facebook.com/Gtechnologybyhitachieurope for information regarding the categories, entry criteria and to view the applicable contest rules.
Collaborating
Leading up to and throughout the ÉCU, G-Technology will showcase exclusive video clips from creative industry professionals, sharing their insight and tips and tricks garnered over the course of their successful creative careers. A sneak peek of video will include clips from ÉCU President, Scott Hillier, who was director of photography on the Academy award-winning film Twin Towers, and from Andy McLeod, the underwater camera man and RED expert who helped to film the awe-inspiring Dare Devils documentaries.
Sharing and blogging
Throughout ÉCU, G-Technology will be broadcasting unique content through exclusive video footage, blogs and tweets. This will involve G-Technology’s ‘Vlog team’ of videographers working with leading blogger, Ben Blaine of shootingpeople.org, as well as capturing video interviews with established directors, producers and judges, sharing their views about the future of filmmaking and future trends in production technology.
Creating
During the ÉCU weekend, G-Technology will be working directly with filmmakers to help support their creative journeys. This will include two workshops held at the Cinema Le Grand (La Salle Club) that will challenge the way filmmakers think about their entire workflow process. The workshops will demonstrate how G-Technology is working in partnership with other leading capture and post-production global brands to optimise the performance, scalability and affordability of their digital workflows.
The workshops will feature ÉCU shortlisted filmmaker Preston Clay Reed, sharing the workflow set-up he recently used in the making of the production Travelling Salesman, which included RED cameras and G-Technology drives. The workshops will provide tips on how filmmakers can save time and money by highlighting best practice when shooting on RED and how to manage this footage most effectively throughout the workflow using G-Tech external storage and cutting-edge software.
