Hitachi Global Storage Technologies does not perform any data recovery services.

If you need to recover data on your disk drive, there are third party vendors who provide this service. You can search online for data recovery services: http://www.google.com/search?q=data+recovery.

To return a drive under warranty, the disk enclosure seal must not be broken and the drive must be returned according to Hitachi Global Storage Technologies' warranty return instructions.

If the drive enclosure seal has been broken or the logic/circuit board has been removed, the warranty will be voided and any warranty claims for such drive will not be accepted by Hitachi Global Storage Technologies.

The only exception to this rule is if the seal was broken by a commercial data recovery company for the sole purpose of retrieving critical data.

In this case, Hitachi Global Storage Technologies will honor the warranty with the following conditions:

  • Customer must first verify that the drive is still under warranty and otherwise meets the warranty requirements.
  • Customer selects and authorizes a commercial data recovery company to retrieve the data.
  • The data recovery company opens up the drive (breaks the seal) for the sole purpose of retrieving data.
  • The data recovery company verifies that it has worked on your drive. Include option A or B as your verification:
    • Option A: Data recovery company affixes a label to the drive stating that the drive was opened for data recovery purposes
    • Option B: Data recovery company provides a certified written explanation that includes the following information:
      • Why the data recovery work was necessary.
      • A description of the work performed on the drive.
      • A description of the conditions under which the work was performed.
